LRJ #4

LRJ #4
Celia is a courtier in disguise as Aliena, a shepherdess that has just moved into the Forest of Arden with her brother Ganymede (Rosalind, her cousin who is also from the court). In act three Celia is still in the Forest of Arden, as is the rest of the characters that were previously in the forest. In scene one, she is acting as priest for Rosalind [as Ganymede] and Orlando for them to be “married”. The importance of everyone being in the forest is that the forest is a place of peace and magic. Since the trio of Touchstone, Rosalind and Celia have entered the forest, love of all sorts has been found.
Celia in scene three, wants to comfort Rosalind for Orlando’s absence after he promised to be around at two for his time to woo Ganymede as Rosalind. Her first suggestion is that Orlando may have just fallen asleep.
Celia also talks with Oliver about Orlando, and then gets an explanation as to why he was not there at the time. Although she has not fallen in love with him yet, she later gets married to him. This is another goal of hers. She wants to get married to Oliver, but is also concerned about Rosalind, and how she will take the news of finding out her lover or future husband has been injured.
She has found new love with Oliver, and as such is less jealous of her best friend and cousin Rosalind. Between her and Rosalind, their relationship is strong as ever. Though Celia has been within the forest for awhile now, she hasn’t socialized as much as her cousin has.
